This policy covers the BORK Audiobooks apps and this web site, provided by Modular Dreams Inc. In short: no account, no advertising, no tracking, and nothing about you is sold or shared.
What stays on your device
Your starred books and chapters, where you are in each book, your downloads and your settings are stored on your device. On Apple devices, your starred books and chapters, the chapter you last played and your Skip announcements setting also sync through your own iCloud account, which we cannot read. On Android, the app's settings may be included in your device's own backup to your Google account. On the web they are kept in your browser's local storage, and we set no cookies of our own.
What the apps send to the BORK server
To show the catalogue, covers and chapter lists, the apps ask the BORK server. Each request includes the type and model of the device, its screen size and orientation, the app version and a random identifier for this installation of the app. They are used only to shape the reply, such as choosing cover sizes and layouts; the identifier is not stored and is not linked to you. Like any web server, the BORK servers keep standard logs (IP address, time and the address requested), which are used only to keep the service running and secure, and are not shared.
Each time an app is opened, it also tells our status server so, with the device model, its system version and the app version, and no identifier. This shows us, live, how many people are listening and on what, so we notice quickly if the app stops working for some of them. The status server holds only the last 100 of these in memory, together with the IP address they came from and its country, and never writes them to disk; they are gone as new ones arrive or when the server restarts.
Audio and other services
The audio is streamed and downloaded directly from the Internet Archive, so those requests are covered by the Internet Archive's own policies. This web site is delivered through Cloudflare, which processes visitors' IP addresses to deliver and protect it. Links to Project Gutenberg, Open Library, Standard Ebooks, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Books-A-Million and LibriVox open those sites, and their own privacy policies apply there; shops where BORK is an affiliate may set a cookie to credit a purchase to BORK.
Children
BORK does not collect personal information from anyone, including children.
